Our Team

Chris Thompson

Coach Chris has played volleyball since he was 15 years old, starting out as a sophomore at Pattonville High School under Coaches Terry Funderburk and Johnny Chittakhone. His love for the game grew while being stationed in California, Japan, and South Carolina serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was representing multiple bases and command teams playing both indoor and beach volleyball.

When leaving the Corps, he took a job in Atlanta where he quickly found the volleyball community and started playing in multiple leagues around the city. Like a lot of Atlanta volleyballers, he felt the pull of coaching the next generation of athletes. He had heard of a little club in Douglasville where he lived named Push 1, and they were gracious enough to give him a shot at coaching. After coaching there for 2 years, he decided that he wanted to go out further west and come on board with West Georgia Volleyball Academy. The rest is history. From then, the club went from 5 teams to 10 to 16 teams, from practicing in elementary and high schools to purchasing his own building to house a practice facility; then later adding in beach/grass volleyball to help athletes round out their skills in the off season.

In his off time, when he is not traveling around the world with his “real job” as a mechanical integrity inspector, he loves to spend time with his family at the lake, as well as hunting and fishing with his kids and his father, and working on his classic cars. This will be Coach Chris’s 11th season with WGVA Chaos Volleyball, and he is excited to see the club become stronger with each season, as he continues with his philosophy of bringing effective training at affordable cost to the local community and hopes to make this club the premier club in our area.

Coach Shaun started playing volleyball in his freshman year of high school when he found his love for the game. Growing up in South Florida, men’s volleyball wasn’t as evolved as it is now but that didn’t slow him down.

After graduating high school, he went on to join the United States Air Force where he spent the next 11 years. During that time in the service, he continued to play and grow his passion for the sport. He played for various base teams to include playing overseas while deployed against local native teams.

After service, Coach Shaun arrived in Douglasville, GA and started playing in local leagues and pick-up games. In 2017, he began his coaching career and coached at both the high school and club level coaching athletes from ages 14-18. This year will be Coach Shaun’s fourth year with WGVA. He is excited to train the next level of athletes to hopefully one day replace him in the sport he loves so much.
